Are We Better Oo without Counter-examples?

چکیده
Concept-learning is commonly implemented using discrimination-based techniques which rely on both examples and counterexamples of the concept. Recently, however, a recognition-based approach that learns a concept in the absence of counterexamples was shown to be more accurate than its discrimination counterpart on two real-world domains and as accurate on the third. The purpose of this paper is to nd out whether this recognition-based approach is generally more accurate than its discrimination counterpart or whether the results it obtained previously are purely coinci-dental. The analysis conducted in this paper concludes that the results obtained on the real-world domains were not coincidental, and this suggests that recognition-based approaches are promising techniques worth studying in greater depth.

Complex WKB Method for 3-Level Scattering Systems
In this note, recent developements of the Complex WKB method allowing to compute the S-matrix naturally associated with a singularly perturbed three-dimensional system of linear diierential equations without turning point on the real axis are reviewed. It is shown that for a fairly large class of examples, the Complex WKB method gives results far better than what is proven under generic circums...

Object oriented design patterns as popularized in [GHJV95] are intended to solve common programming problems and to assist the programmer in designing and developing robust systems. As first year courses increasingly emphasize object orientation, knowledge of design patterns and when to use them becomes an important component of the first year curriculum. Recent literature has focused on introd...
متن کاملProof-Like Counter-Examples
Counter-examples explain why a desired temporal logic property fails to hold, and as such considered to be the most useful form of output from modelcheckers. Reported explanations are typically short and described in terms of states and transitions of the model; as a result, they can be effectively used for debugging. However, counter-examples are not available for every CTL property and are of...
متن کاملFuzzy almost generalized $e$-continuous mappings
In this paper, we introduce and characterize the concept of fuzzy almost generalized $e$-continuous mappings. Several interesting properties of these mappings are also given. Examples and counter examples are also given to illustrate the concepts introduced in the paper. We also introduce the concept of fuzzy $f T_{frac{1}{2}}e$-space, fuzzy $ge$-space, fuzzy regular $ge$-space and fuzzy gener...

Euthanasia has been the subject of much controversy during the last three decades. In ethics most philosophers divide it into active and passive euthanasia and consider the first option to be immoral. There are some thinkers, however, who deny any moral significance in such a distinction. Among them and perhaps the first in this arena is James Rachels who is followed by other thinkers like Jona...
